Several of our chapter members will present Lightning Talks on a variety of topics, and one presenter will give an extemporaneous Lightning Talk.
A Lightning Talk is a 5-minute presentation using only 20 slides at 15 seconds per slide. The presenter does not control the timing of the slides; they are strictly paced at 15-second intervals.
If you’d like to see an example of a Lightning Talk, see Great Designers Steal to sample this unique presentation style.
Our presenters include:
Linda Kelley telecommutes to her job as Senior Technical Writer at Synergex, a software company in Gold River, California. She has been a member of STC for more than half her life and currently serves the Chicago chapter as the Immediate Past President.
Paul Lockwood is a proposal writer/RFP manager for a Chicago-based wellness company, The Vitality Group. Previously, he’s done radio news, public relations, marketing, technical writing, usability testing, and team leading. He lives in Woodstock where he does a lot of community theater acting and where he served as president of one theater group for close to six years. He also serves on the Woodstock Public Library board, is active in his church, and writes a monthly newspaper column (“A Musing”) that is sometimes serious (a musing) and sometimes funny (amusing).
Chris Hester is an independent consultant and has worked with organizations on content strategy, content management, and software implementation projects. She is an Associate Fellow of STC, a member of STC Chicago, and has presented at local and national conferences. She is currently the conference chair of STC’s 2014 Technical Communication Summit.
Becky Hall is the owner of Rebecca C. Hall Consulting and has been an independent consultant for over 18 years. Her involvement in technical communication goes back further than that. Becky’s goal on her projects is to “make things better” – usually for the end user through writing that helps them get their job done. Becky’s other interests include martial arts, quilting, origami, and singing in the church choir.
Elizabeth Burke is a senior technical writer and instructional designer with experience in a diverse set of businesses including financial, software, pharmaceutical, telecommunication, education, manufacturing, utilities, and intermodal transportation. Elizabeth has served STC Chicago in many roles including this year as program manager, internship manager, and as a judge in the STC Chicago Technical Communication competition.
