*** NOTE: In-person meetups are postponed for now *** Join us on the fourth Thursday of each month for our informal discussion and networking series, Thursday Meetups, where practicing technical communicators discuss innovative trends in the field, present their latest projects, and network with colleagues over a meal. Open to all, the events are free and are held at a variety of Chicago-area locations on the fourth Thursday of every month. Attendees pay for their own food and drinks, but the camaraderie is priceless.

Thursday Meetups – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: So, what is this “Thursday Meetups” event I’ve been hearing so much about?
A: It’s an informal get-together of STC Chicago members and not-yet members over breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Q: Must I be an STC member to attend?
A: Not at all. The purpose of these gatherings is for local technical communicators to get together and talk, although the topics of conversation may range from what’s happening in STC or the profession, to structuring a chapter committee, to helping someone with a challenge that arose in a project just that morning. There is no predetermined agenda or sponsor.
Q: When do these get-togethers take place?
A: The in-person meetups take place on the fourth Thursday of each month. The virtual meetups take place on the second Thursday of the month. Yes, even during the summer!
Q: Who can start a Thursday Meetup event?
A: Anyone. All you have to do is contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let us know the location and whether you’ll be meeting over breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We’ll post the information on the Web and send out an email notice to STC Chicago members and guests.
Q: Are the get-togethers always free?
A: Yes and no. The chapter will not charge registration fees, but attendees will be have to pay for their own food and drinks at the in-person meetups.
Q: Might there be more than one get-together on a given Thursday? That is, the fourth Thursday of the month?
A: Well, why not? STC Chicago members live and work throughout the Chicago metro area. That covers a lot of ground! Let’s say you want to meet up with colleagues in the SW suburbs. Just let us know! We’ll announce the get-together, along with any other requests for get-togethers we receive. So, on any given fourth Thursday, STC Chicago members might be congregating at Wells St Market in the Loop, Half Day Brewing Company in Lincolnshire, a location in or around Schaumburg, or somewhere else. You can choose to attend at the time and location that best suits your needs.
