It’s Awards Season! Each year, the Society for Technical Communication (STC) recognizes outstanding accomplishments of chapters in achieving the society’s goals through a wide range of programs and activities. In 2024, the Chicago Chapter is receiving two major society-level awards, and two of our members are also receiving society-level awards.
Platinum Community Award
STC Chicago is one of six chapters receiving a Platinum award in the annual Community Achievement Award (CAA) competition, which recognizes outstanding accomplishments in achieving STC’s goals through a wide range of programs and activities.
Citation: “For leading the society in the areas of programs and membership.”
Pacesetter Award
STC Chicago is one of five chapters receiving the Pacesetter Award, which annually recognizes innovative and successful community initiatives.
Citation: “For creating an impactful social media internship that provides students with hands-on learning while supporting the advancement of the chapter.”
Associate Fellow Award
Linda Jansak, a longtime chapter volunteer and our liaison with the Chicago eLearning and Technology Showcase, is becoming an STC Associate Fellow. This honor, the second highest member ranking in the society, recognizes members for their outstanding achievements in and contributions to the arts and science of technical communication, and for sustained and significant service to STC.
Citation: “For innovative and quality leadership and outreach over 20 years in support of the Society for Technical Communication and STC Chicago Chapter, and for serving the educational community as an instructor at Purdue University.”
Distinguished Community Service Award
Sian Mehl, the editor of our monthly newsletter, The Folio, is receiving the Distinguished Community Service Award (DCSA), which recognizes contributions of active volunteers to their STC communities.
Citation: “For your sustained contributions to the Chicago Chapter, including but not limited to serving as newsletter editor for three years, designing and implementing a more engaging interactive email newsletter, and providing invaluable advice and support to chapter leadership during times of significant turbulence and turnover.”
Congratulations and Thanks
Let’s take a moment to congratulate Sian and Linda – we’re so proud of their achievements and so lucky to have them as STC Chicago members!
We also want to thank all the volunteers whose service to our chapter has made our society-level awards possible through the years.
